ObbsAndLala Baby Names Tag! Part 2.

On to part 2!

8. Top 3 Girl names.

Answer: My girl names change all to much, but as of this second my top 3 would be Poet Evangeline, Saffia Amaryllis, & Lotus Xavier.

9. Favorite Celebrity baby name.

Answer: Of course they would be Sage( Sylvester Stallone's late son) & Poet ( Soleil Moon Frye's daughter). But to step away from my top names I'll choose from this year. For a girl I love Wilhelmina Jane (Taylor Hanson's daughter). I mean that name is just sweetness all around, so happy someone used Wilhelmina. For a boy my favorite this year is Brooks Alan. I've been loving Brooks for a while and paired with Alan makes it even more handsome.

10. Ultimate GP name.

Answer: For a boy is Clifford<3 I loove the name Clifford so much, but due to the dog I sadly think it's unusable. I do have it as a middle though since I can't let it go. For a girl I have so many but Mylitta has been on my mind a lot lately. Such a sweet name though too sweet. I still want to use it as a middle though.

11. Most hated baby names.

Answer: I know a lot of people love this name but I just can't stand Violet. Waay to close to Violent to the point were whenever I see it I get the two mixed up. For a boy I guess Layton. -ayton names are just not for me actually since I can't stand Payton either.

12. Choose a baby name based on a food/drink.

Answer: I had the hardest time thinking of a boy name until it dawned on me that Sage is a food haha so yeah Sage for a boy and Plum for a girl.

13. Choose a baby name based on a month.

Answer: December for a boy and January for a girl. I know most would see December as a girl name but I see it as an alternative to Declan.

14. Choose a baby name from Twilight.

Answer: For a boy I love Carlisle and for a girl I like Victoria.

15. Choose a baby name that is already in your family.

Answer:  I love the name Marcel, which is my dads middle, but he hates the name and everyone thinks it's too feminine. Which doesn't bother me since I have Madison on my list but my dad would kill me if I used it. For a girl Lucille, my grandmas middle name.

Well those are it! Hope everyone enjoyed it!

ObbsAndLala Baby Names Tag! Part 1.

I just watched ObbsAndLala's Baby name Tag videos and thought it would be fun to do! Everyone is tagged feel free to make a video or comment the answers below! P.S. I like weird names so enjoy my craziness :~P.

1. List your favorite & least favorite names from the SSA 2011 Top Ten. (Why do you like them and would you use a nickname?)

Answer:  My favorite boy name would be Mason, not sure why it just sounds really cool and handsome to me. Not a name I would use though since it's sooo popular where I live (#1 last year!). My favorite girl name is.... hard! I love Emma, Chloe, and Abigail but I guess Abigail is my favorite since I've loved it the longest. As for nicknames I love Babs for Abigail, Abi is adorable but too common of a nickname, for Mason I think Mase or Masey are adorable but I would probably just use his full name.

2. If you had twins, what would you name them? (G/G, B/B, & G/B)

Answer: Two girls would be Saffia Amaryllis "Fia/Fi" & Lotus Xavier "Loie/Lolo/Lottie". I love those two together and have been obsessing over Lotus's nickname possibilities. Two boys would be Sage Nathaniel & Sebastien Cove. I've always wanted twin boys with these names, first letter matchy-ness was so not intentional haha! Girl/Boy would be Poet Evangeline & Price Mackenzie, matchy-ness also not on purpose.

3. If you could change your name to anything, what would it be?

Answer: Duffy. It still fits with my parents theme and has a old Hollywood glamour about it to me.

4. You have 4 children, any gender. Their first names all start with the same letter. What would their names be?

Answer: Hmm I'll do S names since that's my favorite letter. Sage(b), Sebastien, Saffia, & Snow! Sage and Snow are kinda close but whatever I like it haha!

5. Favorite animal inspired name.

Answer: For a boy Hawk more so as a nickname for Hawthorne though. Girl would be Dove.

6. Favorite color inspired name.

Answer: For a boy Grey and for a girl Blu.

7.  Top 3 boy names.

Answers: I actually have combo's so it would be Price Mackenzie, Madison Finch/Laszlo , & Sage Aurelian! Still not sure which middle I love more for Madison though I am leaning towards Finch.

I'll do the next part a little later since I don't want this to be too long. Anyway thanks for reading. :~) Oh and go check out Kayla's channel!

Halloween Inspired Names *Girlies Edition*

Now on to the girls! This was suppose to be up on Friday but I wasn't home at all so better late then never!

Whisper- Whisper is one of my loves, it isn't on my list but I've toyed around with putting it there. Of course it's a word name which means "to speak softly". The name just sounds slightly haunting, like hearing whispers in the dark. Some may say it's not usable but I definitely do with other words getting more attention.

Sally- From Nightmare Before Christmas. Sally is just such a sweet name! So dainty and cute with a bit of old lady chic in there. Sally is a diminutive of Sarah which means "princess" or "lady". Sally could also be a nickname for Sallinger, Sariah, Salome, or Cecilia if you would prefer Sally as a nickname.

Persephone- Queen of the underworld*. While being the queen of the underworld may not be the best association I do think Persephone is simply gorgeous. Long and romantic but also has a darkness to it(which fits right into the Halloween vibe)!

Samara- From The Ring. While I'm shocked that Samara actually became more popular after the creepy movie I do see why, it's so pretty and different! Even though the movie did help this lovely name get recognition it isn't popular at all (#559 on the USA charts). Samara means "Guarded by God".

Some more Halloween inspired names:

Sabrina(From Sabrina the Teenage Witch)
Halle/Halo
Carrie(From Stephen Kings Carrie)
Luna(Means "Moon", or you could go with Moon)
October
Rosemary(From Rosemary's Baby)
Blair(From The Blair Witch Project)
Wednesday(Character from The Addams Family)
Tabitha nn Tabby
Lydia(From Beetlejuice)

For some reason it was so hard finding names! But alas the Halloween list is here.

* There were a lot of mixed meanings and history behind Persephone I just went with the most consistent one. Sorry if I have the wrong info!

Halloween Inspired Names *GuyEdition*

One of my favorite holidays is Halloween! There are also a lot really cool names that to me fit right with the Halloween. Some are from Halloween movies while other have dark or mysterious feelings to them. Hope you enjoy these ghoulish finds haha!

Guys.

Jack- From the Nightmare Before Christmas(my absolute favorite movie). Also for Jack o'lantern. Jack is just a timeless and handsome name and with the connection to the amazing movie and pumpkin I think it's a perfect name for a little Halloween baby without being in your face obvious. Jack is a diminutive of John so I feel like John could also be a nice name to use.

Salem- From the Salem Witch Trials. While the witch trials might make this name unusable to some I think it definitely usable and should be used more. It has such a mysterious and cool vibe to it that works perfect with popular names today(such as Silas). Salem also means Peace which is such a nice meaning. Salem could also be used for a girl but I much prefer it for a boy.

Casper/Caspar- I have to talk about Casper! Such an amazingly cute name. Of course from Casper the friendly ghost which I actually don't think hinders the name. It just sounds like a name could make a great transition from a little boy to a man. Casper just has a cute but dashing feel and on the right person could definitely work. Caspar has a more romantic feel and I think it doesn't hold the ghost association. Casper is the dutch form of Jasper which means treasurer so if you don't want to use the up and coming Jasper, Casper would be a cute alternative. Caspar means imperial.

Night/Knight- Okay maybe not this is a little too out there but I definitely think it could work, maybe more as a middle or pet name but if your brave enough I think it could definitely work for a first name. Knight may be a better choice though since it would fit into the surnames as first trend.

Other Halloween inspired boy names:
Cullen(Edward Cullen from Twilight)
Freddie/Freddy(Kruger)
Dexter(T.V. show; Dexter)
Draco(means "Dragon/Serpent" & Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter)
Ciel(French for sky)
Blake(Means "Black/Pale")
Corbin(Means "Raven")
Wolfram(Means "Wolf raven")
Bram(Bram Stoker author of Dracula)
Alfred(Hitchock)
Malachi(character on Children of the Corn)
Dunstan(Means "Dark/Stone")
Sullivan(Means "little dark eye")

Girlies Edition is next, Happy Halloween!

Little Hello & Vintage nicknames.

I've been MIA for awhile (which isn't good when you are trying to start a blog) but as luck would have it my laptop broke about a week after starting this lovely blog, and blogging from my phone is a task I am not ready to feat so this little newborn of a blog had to be neglected for the time being. But at last I have a new Laptop! So hello blog nice to meet you again.  :~)

I've been *trying* to stay away from names for the past two weeks to deal with life but I just can't seem to. Bye bye went Formspring and hello said Nameberry, which isn't exactly helping with the name break. Anyway since I'm failing at that why not also blog about them? I may be in a bit of a funk with my names, which I'm slowly getting out of, but that shouldn't stop me from helping others explore all the possibilities. So any I've been having a little fascination with cool vintage nicknames, way more fun then the all too popular Maddie's & Ally's. They just add so much more to already gorgeous names, and since vintage is coming back into style with the little Mabel's being born why not add some of the nicknames to the mix also.

For the guys three of my favorites are:

Bram - Nickname for Abraham, Abram, or Bramwell. I've come to like the charm of Bram. It comes off as cool and laid back but not boring in the least. It has a quirk to it and while it's not really a nickname but a the Dutch variation of Abraham it does work as such. Of course you could go with the usual Abe, which is adorable also, but Bram sounds more mature and wise.

Ollie- Nickname for Oliver or Oleander. I will admit that Oliver is not my type of name at all but I adore the oh so cute Ollie that comes from it. And while I know Oleander is a flower, it does seem to for right in with up and coming names such as Leander. Though it may be a stretch Ollie could also work for Alexander.

Bat - Nickname for Bartholomew. I know Bartholomew might not be coming back any time soon the nickname Bat has definitely caught my attention. It's cool and I think could appeal to parents that want a tough guy type name. Not sure why but I really like it.

Some other vintage boy names include:

Fritz(Frederick or Fredrich)
Cy(Cyrus, Cyprus, or Cypress)
Ned(Edward, Benedict, or Edmund)
Clem(Clement)
Chas(Charles)
Chet(Chester)
Si(Simon)
Jet(Jethro)
Cager(Macajah)
Pip(Phillip or Peter)

Now for girls they're a lot more options :

Minnie - Nickname for Wilhelmina, Hermione, or Minka. I absolutely love this nn! So cute, spunky, and just gorgeous! The Minnie Mouse association may be a bit strong but I actually think it adds the name, there is also the Minnie(full name Amelia) Driver association which also adds to the charm.

Lulu/Lula - Nickname for Lucille, Eulalia, or Louisa. Lulu is just the epitome of spunk and sass while Lula is sweet and innocent. I love the contrast between the two. I feel like both these names have enough spunk to standalone and fit in with all the other popular names.

Mabs - Nickname for Mabel or Amabel. Just utterly gorgeous and spunky(spunky is the word of the day I guess haha). Mabs just has a artsy feel to it, I could definitely see parents taking notice to this adorable nickname.

Some other vintage girl nicknames include:

Mamie(Mary)
Bess(Elisabetta or Elizabeth)
Flory(Florence)
Mitzi(Maria)
Pru(Prudence)
Nell(Penelope, Helen, or Eleanor)
Fifi(Josephine, Fredrica, or Fiona)
Bea(Beatrice)
Dot/Dottie(Dorothy or Dorothea)
Kay/Kit(Katherine)

So what are some of your favorite nicknames, be it vintage or not? I was also thinking about maybe doing modern nicknames so thoughts on that also?

Name of the Week: Eulalia

Hi again now it's name of the week time! I might do name of the day when I get more use to this whole blogging thing but for now I'll do weekly names!

Pronounced: you-LAY-lee-uh
Origin: Greek
Meaning: sweet speaking/ well spoken

Nicknames: Lalli(Lay-lee), Eula, Lia, Lala, Lili(Lee-Lee or Lily), Leila/Laila.

My Take: I love the exotic sound of Eulalia but also that to me it doesn't sound to "out there" or "too much" with the balance of a more mainstream nickname(like the ones listed above). Eulalia also has a very laid back feel, it reminds me of Hawaiian names in a way.

A bit of history: From what I researched there are 2 Saints with the name one whom was a 13 year old Roman Christian Martyred under Diocletian for trying to stop the prosecution of Christians. So not only is it a beautiful name but it also has some really cool roots!

So what are you opinions on Eulalia, too out there or just right?

A Get To Know....

I've been wanting to make a blog for a while, and what not better to make it about then my obsession?
Since this is my first ever post I thought that I would give you a little bit of background of me in Names:

Dayton Kennedy- Of course we will start off with my own name. Probably some of you anti-unisex people are having a heart attack over my name, it is very masculine. Dayton is a Old English male place name. I have come across many meaning of my name from "Day's Settlement" to "Day Town" to "Dairy Town" so I know that my name means Town at least :~). Now on to Kennedy, which is a Irish Surname which... well everyone knows what Kennedy mean since it doesn't exactly have the best meaning but if you don't know it means "Helmeted Head" "Ugly Head" not the best meaning in the world but I do still love my name as a whole! My experience with my name has bee pretty basic, but I ultimately think it is because Dayton is pretty unheard of so no one knew it was a boys name to begin with. Growing up the only "teasing" was mild just the occasional "Hey Dayton, who you Datin'" (yes that is pretty lame, it was lame when some guy said that to me too). Also where I grew up many people had unisex names which brings me to.......

Kai- My best friends, I love her name! It fit her to a T and I knew no different that it was  Hawaiian for Sea, and also predominantly used on men. I'm not really sure which gender I prefer but growing up knowing both a male and female Kai(male spelled Khai) I do kinda like it more for a girl. But maybe I'm bias!

I guess that's my first post tell me what you think! I will continue the Get To Know in name but just wanted to get my first post out!
